Saturday kite fever ready to take off in Washington
The sky's the limit as preparations for this weekend's Friendship Festival take flight.
International kite fliers joined pupils from Hudson Road Primary to take their kites on a test flight at playing fields in Usworth, Washington.
Among those showcasing their designs will be international kite fliers Robert Brasington from Tasmania, Allesia and Fausto Marrocu from Sardinia, Rolf and Max Stohanzl from Austria, Robert Trepanier from Canada and artist and kite maker Robert Valkenburgh from Holland.
Highlights of the festival will also include kites and wind instruments made by pupils at Hudson Road Primary, in Sunderland.
The free event will take place tomorrow and Sunday from 11am-5pm at the Northern Area Playing Fields in Washington.
As well as featuring the popular kite displays the festival is playing host to street theatre, exhibitions, family craft activities, storytelling, international cuisine and world music.
