Ref in debts wrangle pulled from games
Premier League ref Mark Clattenburg has been pulled from Sunday's Community Shield because of the alleged debts of his company.
The FA and Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMO) has announced that the official, from Chester-le-Street, will no longer take charge of the clash between Manchester United and Portsmouth at Wembley.
Clattenburg's firm MC Electrical Retail NE Ltd was wound up under the Insolvency Act on June 27, Newcastle County Court confirmed.
In May, his friend John Hepworth served Clattenburg's firm with legal papers demanding 59,589.
When it failed to pay, he took the case to the county court and MC Electrical Retail NE Ltd was wound up.
A joint statement from the FA and PGMO read: "PGMO is aware of media reports concerning alleged debts incurred by companies connected to referee Mark Clattenburg.
"It has been decided he will not officiate any matches pending inquiries into the background to these reports."
However, the PGMO, which provides match officials for all games played in the FA Premier League, offered its support to 33-year-old Clattenburg.
A spokesman said: "Mark Clattenburg is one of England's leading referees and we hope to resolve this matter swiftly."
