"Vaux site is key to city's growth"
Dave Smith, chief executive of Sunderland City Council said the site was key to the city's development.
He said: "Sunderland City Council is continuing to work with its partners to secure the long-term regeneration of the Vaux site.
"The development of this site is a key to unlocking further regeneration of the city centre and the continued growth of Sunderland's economy.
"The council and its partners want to see significant job creation in an employment-led mixed use development which includes a new city centre business district, new homes, hotels, a public square and events space, all expanding the city centre."
