Newcastle, Sunderland and Everton fans brawl at station

Rival soccer yobs clashed in a post-match brawl.

Gangs of supporters from Sunderland, Newcastle and Everton came together at Newcastle Central Station after their Sunday fixtures.

Eyewitnesses told of violent clashes, but officers said the trouble had calmed by the time they arrived.

Trouble flared after the Newcastle's home game with Everton on Sunday.

Supporters from both sides descended on Central Station, making their way home, as Sunderland fans arrived from London, with the Black Cats having lost to Arsenal 3-2.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said they received reports of a "fracas" on the ramp next to platform three.

Two 31-year-old men were arrested at 9.30pm for public order offences and being drunk and disorderly. BTP officers are studying CCTV footage from the station to determine whether any known hooligans were involved in the disturbances.
