Minster's Stephen Taylor 'humbled' by MBE honour
"IT WAS splendid – a very happy day."
Sunderland Minster's Canon Stephen Taylor told of his pride at collecting his MBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace – and revealed the Prince of Wales was eager to find out how the Black Cats are getting on.
Mr Taylor, who also serves as chairman of the Sunderland Partnership, yesterday collected his honour, which was awarded for services to the community in the city.
"I had anticipated what Prince Charles might ask and had all sorts of answers prepared – then his first question was about how the football club was doing," he said.
"It was just such an honour to be there with so many real heroes – it was very humbling.
"I took my mum and dad and my wife. It was only the second time my mum had seen Buckingham Palace."
