Keane signs Halford

Roy Keane has splashed £3m on his first signing of the summer, Reading right-back Greg Halford.

The 6ft 5in defender signs a four-year deal.

Halford was allowed to leave Reading, who signed him from Colchester in January for 2m.

Since then the England Under-20 has played just three games for Steve Coppell's side.

Manager Roy Keane said, "I'm delighted Greg has decided to join us, and hopefully he will play a big part in what we hope to be a successful few years for the club."

And after passing today's medical to complete his move, Halford said, "It's great to be here. The set-up at Sunderland is phenomenal and I can't wait to get going. I've had a taste of the Premiership with Reading and I want more."
