Cyclist dies from collision injuries
A CYCLIST has died two weeks after he sustained head injuries when his bike collided with a car.
James Jorgensen, of Hunstanton, in East Shore Village, Seaham, was knocked from his bike just streets away from his home.
Police say he died at Newcastle General Hospital, where he had been in a critical condition since the accident, on Wednesday.
Investigations into the collision are continuing and officers have appealed for good Samaritans who helped treat Mr Jorgensen at the scene to come forward to help with inquiries.
The 55-year-old had been riding along the B1287 North Road at its junction with Stoneycroft Way, as he headed towards the town centre.
As he came off the roundabout, he collided with a red Hyundai Matrix being driven by a 49-year-old Peterlee man.
The driver, his 40-year-old female passenger and her six-year-old daughter, were uninjured in the accident, which happened at about 6pm on Wednesday, September 24.
Mr Jorgensen was resuscitated by paramedics and first taken to Sunderland Royal, before being transferred to the Tyneside hospital.
He had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and sustained serious head injuries.
A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: "A number of people stopped at the scene of the accident, some of whom assisted with first aid, but left without leaving their details.
"Police are appealing that they should come forward, along with anyone else who witnessed what happened and has not been in touch."
