Crufts star Enferno 'is a true showman'

Sunderland truck driver Nick Burnikell and his dog Enferno have walked away with a top prize at Crufts.

The four-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux proved every dog has its day as it scooped the best of breed award in front of 16,000 people packed into Birmingham's NEC.

Nick, from New Herrington, hit the jackpot in his first year at the world famous show and the 30-year-old was left beaming with pride at Enferno's performance on the big stage.

He said: "He is a true showman and is far more comfortable under the spotlight than I am.

"It takes a lot of preparation to get a dog like Enferno right for the competition.

"They require almost constant grooming but it is all worth it when you win a prize like this.

"They also need a lot of exercise and will drag you around five miles every day.

"He is a right old character and normally gets what he wants.

"Crufts is the equivalent of the World Cup for dog lovers so to win here means so much."
