Coronation Street's Kevin and Molly switch on Durham lights

Hundreds turned out to watch soap stars switch on Durham's Christmas light display.

People packed out Durham as Coronation Street's Molly Dobbs and Kevin Webster, alias actors Michael le Vell and Vicky Binns, were joined by last year's X Factor finalists Bad Lashes, panto favourite Pee Wee Price and Benidorm club singer Shaun Foster-Conley.

Their characters are currently having an affair and later this week face the decision of whether to leave their partners.

Michael le Vell said: "It's a beautiful place. I cannot believe I have never been here before. I will definitely be coming back.

Vicky Binns, who appears as Molly Dobbs, added: "I used to come to visit Durham regularly when my friend was at the university here, so I know it through student eyes.

"It's such a grand and beautiful place, you forget how wonderful it is."
