Cervical cancer survivor raises £2,506 for research
A cervical cancer survivor has helped raise vital funds to help other women with the devastating disease.
Kirsty Hill was diagnosed with the condition last year and underwent a hysterectomy in a bid to prevent it from spreading.
Thankfully, the operation was a success – although it meant she wouldn't be able to have children of her own – and after radiotherapy and chemotherapy she has now returned to work.
Earlier this year, she embarked on a fund-raising drive in aid of Northern Cancer Care and Research Society (NCCRS).
And after a sell-out charity night at Hylton Castle Workingmen's Club, in Sunderland, Kirsty has handed over a cheque for more than 2,000 to the charity.
Dental nurse Kirsty said: "The event was a big success. We raised an amazing 2,506 for the cancer care and research society and, hopefully, with this we can help save North East women's lives."
The money will be used to help the NCCRS promote research into diagnosis and treatment of cancers in women.
"I am so grateful for the response I got and would like to thank all the entertainers who preformed for free at the event," said Kirsty, of Hylton Castle.
"Thanks to 007 and Kickback, they were fab, and all the people and companies that donated raffle prices. I also want to thank the club in Hylton Castle for letting us hold the event there as well as those who helped organise it all, including my mam and nanna."
