Businessman accused of £4,950 cash fraud

A businessman appeared in court accused of a £4,950 grant fraud.

John Cairns, 39, of Glenshiel Close, Ayton, Washington, is accused of making a false application to Business Link for a training grant.

Bob Spragg, defending, told Durham Crown Court he needed more time to study bank statements and other financial documents in the case.

No charges were put to Cairns during the short hearing.

Judge John Evans adjourned the case until July 31 and released Cairns on unconditional bail.
