The animal was one of three which had escaped from a nearby farm.

It ran through the automatic doors at the complex and raced into the foyer.

The horse cantered down a corridor before turning round and fleeing through the exit as couples, friends and families looked on in amazement.

Footage of the bizarre incident, which lasted less than a minute, was posted on YouTube, but has now been removed.

No one was hurt and the horse was captured safely soon after the incident on December 19.

A cinema source said: "It was wandering outside, and a little girl frightened it by blowing a raspberry at it. The horse headed towards us, and when it got close, the automatic doors opened and it came in.

"It was a bit of a surprise – the general public don't expect to see a horse in the middle of a cinema foyer – but it was all over in 20 seconds."

Cineworld's Tim Hamlyn said: "I thought someone was playing a joke when the incident report stated 'horse in cinema' was sent to me.

"It was the first Friday of the holidays when the horse came in through one of our big entrance doors, ran into the foyer, along the corridor, and then turned round and ran straight out again.

"It's certainly the first time I've heard of this happening, and I've worked in cinemas for six years."
