Bike ride back to old days
A policeman has taken a trip down memory lane in the run-up to a motorcycle show.
Pc Mick Alder has been a member of Durham Constabulary's motorcycle section since 1986. He and his colleagues are putting the finishing touches to the force's annual BikeWise event.
The family fun day is being held at police HQ at Aykley Heads, Durham, on Sunday.
Mick, who plans to retire next summer when he completes 30 years' service, has been involved in every show since the first in 1995.
One of the attractions will be a parade of vintage bikes, some dating back to the 1930s.
The display has been put together with the help of local bike clubs. Among the vehicles featured will be a classic 1958 Royal Enfield, which for many years was used by officers on the county's roads.
It was then adapted for use specifically on the force skid pan. When Pc Alder took his skid pan training, the Enfield was the bike he rode.
BikeWise runs from 10am to 4pm, with entry just 1 for adults. Children get in free. All proceeds go to local good causes once costs have been met.
Attractions include Darlington-based stunt rider Dave Coates; a display by some of the dogs and their handlers who have featured on the recent Tyne-Tees K999 – Dog Detectives programme; the chance for people to go for a spin on the force's skid pan; a demonstration by the members of Durham's mini-bike club, and various trade and club exhibitions.
Courtesy of HM Plant and Honda racing, British Supersport and Superstock rider Steve Brogan will meet fans and sign autographs.
Steve won the Suzuki GSXR World Cup final in France in 2003.
