Bananaman went on violent rampage
A thug dressed as a superhero Bananaman assaulted two women in a drug-crazed rage, a court heard.
Steven Anderson trashed a room at the Roker Lodge Hotel in Sunderland, before assaulting his then-girlfriend and her friend.
Sunderland Magistrates' Court were told Anderson, 27, had donned the blue and yellow costume as part of a fund-raising event for a dead pal.
But the evening turned sour when he met partner Asten Nicholson and her friend Sarah Jane Preece at the hotel.
Prosecutor James Richardson described how 14-stone Anderson flipped shortly after arriving at the room, booked by Miss Nicholson so the trio could enjoy a night out in Sunderland.
In a statement read out to court, she claimed Anderson - who she had been with for just two months - was high on cocaine and steroids and "went off it" after her skirt rode up.
He began kicking the bathroom door and repeatedly punching a wardrobe in a fit of destruction, causing over 1,000 in damage.
Anderson then pushed Miss Nicholson over and imprisoned the terrified pair by pushing the bed up against the door, telling them he would keep them there all night.
They managed to escape after Miss Nicholson soothed Anderson and agreed they would all leave together.
"I stroked his face and told him I loved him and apologised that I was being cheeky, but I was lying, because I could never love anyone I was that scared of."
But the lout erupted one last time and attacked her petrified friend in the hotel doorway, before Miss Nicholson managed to alert security.
Anderson pleaded guilty to two assault charges, criminal damage and threatening behaviour.
Mitgating, Brian Chapman said Anderson had not drank heavily at the fund-raising event, but felt unwell after arriving at the hotel and feared his drink had been spiked.
"The behaviour itself is evidential of someone who has lost control and is not behaving in a rational manner."
He added: "Something came over him that night which he deeply regrets and apologies for his actions."
The court heard Anderson, of Ashburn Road, Fulwell, was working in Holland and hoped to move there permanently.
Magistrates imposed an 18-month conditional discharge for each offence of criminal damage and threatening behaviour, to run consecutively.
Anderson was fined 1,000 for the two assaults and ordered to pay compensation of 100 to Miss Nicholson, 300 to Miss Preece, 1,057 to the hotel, 150 court costs and a 15 victim surcharge.
