Arrests in hunt for cop attacker
Seven people have been arrested after a police officer was left with a serious eye injury.
Armed officers yesterday searched seven homes across the city as part of their investigations.
The injured officer, who today remains in hospital, was attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Teams of armed police descended on a house in Whickham Street East, Roker, at 6pm last night, sealing off a large part of the area.
Two men today remain in custody as enquiries into the incident continue.
