Youth group’s funding boost

YOUNG people at a Durham group said a big thank you for funding.

The members of the Easington Village Groundwork North East group invited their county councillors, David Boyes and Angela Surtees, along to a meeting to show them the work they do.

Thanks to the councillors, £6,000 was donated to the group from the Neighbourhood Budget to help pay towards activities and rescourses.

Linda Vasey, a youth worker who helps run the group, said: “The young people do a lot of fund-raising themselves and this money will be a big boost to us.

“In the coming months they will be doing gardening and also making flower planters for elderly people”

The group runs two sessions in Easington Village church hall – one for eight to 11-year-olds, and the other for 12 to 16-year-olds.
