A YOUNGSTER fighting an extremely-rare condition is set to cheer on Sunderland.
Five-year-old Adam Butterfield, pictured with mum Nicola, is one of only a dozen people in the UK with the chromosome abnormality Emmanuel Syndrome.
His condition confines him to a wheelchair and doctors say he could suffer a string of health problems, including heart seizures, kidney failure, and asphyxiation.
Adam and dad John Butterfield, 40, will be at the Capital One Cup Final on Sunday.
Adam, who goes to Howletch Primary School, has a season ticket and goes with dad John as his carer.
Mum Nicola, of Acre Rigg, Peterlee, said: “Getting to the final is one of those rare events. It is all John has talked about since they got their tickets.
“It will be a long day for Adam, but I’m sure he will enjoy it – especially if Sunderland win.”
