Changes to the car park at Marine Walk, Roker, will start tomorrow, which are costing £30,000, in preparation for a new toilet block and a new entrance.

The changes will mean the car park, next to Sue’s Café, will have 63 spaces. Work will then commence on the toilet block.

Works in the car park are expected to take six weeks and will involve partial closures to the car park.

Councillor Michael Mordey, Sunderland City Council's cabinet member for City Services, said: “The seafront is a fantastic place for residents and visitors to enjoy, and we want to make it even more accessible for more people.

"The new toilet block will include a 'Changing Places' facility for people with disabilities to access the equipment and space they need to enjoy our seafront fully.”

The majority of the works are taking place outside of the busy peak summer season. Alternative car parking is available opposite the Marine Walk car park.
