Women’s cancer run organisers mustering Sunderland recruits

.

.

WOMEN across Wearside are today being urged to lace up their trainers in honour of loved ones who have battled cancer.

Race for Life has launched its 2013 campaign to get ladies to sign up and raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Last year’s event, held in Herrington Country Park, saw 3,100 runners raise an astonishing £171,000.

The day gave grandmothers, mothers, aunties, daughters and friends the opportunity to remember or celebrate family members or friends who have suffered from cancer.

The annual event created fun for all the family, as a sea of women dressed in pink took on the course through the park.

Organisers are wanting to up the ante in 2013 by getting 100 more Wearside and County Durham women to take part.

Holly Howey, Cancer Research’s North East events manager, said: “Come on ladies, please pay your part by entering Race for Life in Sunderland today.

“Together, we can hit cancer where it hurts”.

The race will take place on Sunday, May 19, in Herrington Park.

Women of all abilities can take part, whether they want to walk or run, with a distance choice of 5k or 10k.

The money raised allows doctors, nurses and scientists to save lives of men, women and children across the North East.

The entry fee for the event this year is £14.99 for adults and £10 for girls under 16.

This goes towards the cost of staging the day and allows all the money raised to be donated to Cancer Research UK.

To enter go to www.raceforlife.org, or call 0845 600 6050.
