Police and ambulance crews tending to an injured motorist at an rta on the A690 Durham Road at Stoneygate on Thursday morning.

A WOMAN needed hospital treatment after her motorcycle collided with a car.

The crash happened close to the Evans Halshaw car dealership on the A690 at Stoneygate, Houghton, this morning.

Police and paramedics attended the scene and the woman was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment.

None of the black Renault Scenic’s passengers were injured in the smash.

Queues of traffic were reported as far back as Rainton Meadows and a section of the carriageway was closed to allow for an investigation with a diversion put in place.

A police spokesperson said: “At 11.48am we received a report of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the A690 Durham Road. The rider of the motorcycle was taken to hospital.”
