Win the chance to be mascot at Sunderland vs Arsenal

ONE lucky youngster is being given the chance to lead their Black Cat heroes on to the pitch.

SAFC’s forthcoming home clash with Arsenal has been designated as “Foundation Day” to raise funds and awareness for the club’s charity, the Foundation of Light.

As well as Martin O’Neill’s side warming up in special charity match shirts prior to the game, a young fan is being given the rare chance to be a team mascot via auction.

The charity is looking for a youngster aged between six and 12 to lead the team out at the game on February 9.

The auction is now active on online auction site eBay, listed under the seller ID foundation_of_light, and is due to end on Monday.

Foundation of Light chief executive Lesley Spuhler said: “We’re very excited to be holding our Foundation Day at the upcoming Arsenal fixture and are incredibly grateful for the support that everyone at Sunderland AFC has given us in order to make this happen.

“The primary objective of the day is to engage with more people, not just as fundraisers but as participants, partners and ambassadors. We support the local community, are here for that local community and are looking forward to working with even more people over the coming year.”

A range of activities will take place throughout the day, both outside the stadium prior to kick off and at half time on the pitch to mark Foundation Day.

The special match shirts will be individually signed and auctioned off after the game in aid of the charity and there will also be opportunities for fans to win prizes as well as learn more about the work of charity.

A “Community Fundraiser” initiative will also be launched at the game, aimed at helping community spirited individuals become involved in supporting positive change in the region.

The Foundation of Light’s head of commercial Phil King added: “We’ve worked hard to make it easy for people to become a part of who we are, what we do and to get involved.”

Established 11 years ago by former Sunderland AFC Chairman Sir Bob Murray, the Foundation of Light is one of the biggest and most developed football foundations in the world.
