Whole new ball game at stadium

THE Stadium of Light is set to host Sunderland’s Annual Civic Charity Ball this year.

This year’s ball is raising funds for St Benedict’s Hospice and Sunderland Carers’ Centre.

Unlike in previous years the event is taking place in the spring, on Friday, April 26, and will be one of the last official events for outgoing Mayor Coun Iain Kay.

St Benedict’s Hospice cares for patients in and around Sunderland with life-limiting illnesses. Sunderland Carers’ Centre offers free support for ill or disabled people in need, including help with cooking, shopping and giving them emotional support.

Coun Kay said: “The Annual Civic Charity Ball is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for good causes and I’m delighted that this year’s event is going to be held at the Stadium of Light.

“The primary aim of the evening is to raise money for two hugely worthwile causes and we’ll be doing all we can to ensure it’s a hugely successful evening.”

SAFC’s commercial director Gary Hutchinson added: “We are thrilled that the Mayor’s Annual Civic Ball will be taking place at the Stadium of Light, combining one of the city’s most prestigious events with the most iconic venue.”

Tickets are available for £50-£100 per person.

To purchase tickets call the Stadium of Light on 0871 911 1500 or e-mail gemma.pringle@safc.com.
