FAMILIES are being invited to give it some welly as they back a children’s charity.
The Sick Children’s Trust is holding a Welly Walk, at Dalton Park in Murton, to raise money to support families with seriously ill youngsters.
The event will take place at noon on Sunday, February 23, in the parkland area, with the 1.5km route to follow the Falcon Trail, crossing the wetlands to the West Pond before heading to high meadows.
A pair of wellies is a must, as there will also be welly decorating and welly wanging competitions.
The event is free to join, but the trust asks those taking part register and raise sponsorship for the charity, which runs home-from-home accommodation for families as their children are cared for in hospital.
Walkers will receive a goody bag, medal and certificate.
Caroline O’Doherty, campaign and appeals manager for the charity, said: “We encourage participants to tramp and splash their way around the trail, knowing each step they take is helping us support around 3,500 families in desperate need of a comfortable place to stay by their child’s bedside.”
