A MENTAL health charity is organising a special celebration this weekend.
Washington Mind is inviting everyone to celebrate the 50th birthday of Washington New Town with a 1960’s themed Summer Fun Day. Running from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, the fun-filled event promises to have something for everyone.
Councillor Bernie Scaplehorn said: “It is great to see many different aspects our community getting together to celebrate this milestone.
“Organisations like Washington Mind continue to provide much needed services on the doorstep of the residents of Washington. I think it is a great cause and encourage everyone to come along and support this fantastic event.
The celebrations at The Life House, Grasmere Terrace, Columbia, will be opened by legendary Sunderland AFC Goalkeeper Jimmy Montgomery.
Organiser Wendy Hadlington said “We have worked really hard to organise a celebration with something for everyone. From fairground rides and a coconut shy to a craft fayre, dancing and even birds of prey.”
