STAFF at a Wearside food store have topped the charts.

Co-operative Food stores were set the challenge of raising money for the Carers Trust after it was selected as the Charity of the Year for 2013.

The branch in Parsons Road, Washington, banked £3,710 through events and collections, and the store was revealed to be the highest earner in its area, which includes Sunderland, Washington and Chester-le-Street.

Operations manager Paul McArdle said: “The teams in my area have done a fantastic job putting the fun into fund-raising, and I’d like to congratulate them all. However, special thanks goes to the team in Washington, who have shown commitment and dedication.

“None of this would have been possible without the continued support of our customers, so we must extend our appreciation to them.”
