MOUNTAIN bikers blasted down Penshaw Hill as the venue hosted its second annual Bikefest.

Riders are usually banned from bombing down the beauty spot, but a joint project organised by Sanctuary Bikes, Sunderland University students and landowners the National Trust was set up last year.

Bikefest 2014 saw riders return to take on the challenge, with a variety of categories and routes set out to suit all riders.

The event took place on Easter Sunday, featuring downhill races starting from Penshaw Monument on a specially-constructed track featuring twists, turns and jumps.
