A NEW body that will decide the future of important transport issues on Wearside and the rest of the North East meets for the first time today.
The Transport North East Committee, which is part of the newly established North East Combined Authority, will consider a report that outlines some of the big transport issues and opportunities in the area.
It was set up after the formation of the North East Combined Authority – a new legal body that brings together the seven councils which serve County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
The seven-authority transport committee replaces the now-defunct Integrated Transport Authority, which met for the last time in March.
The committee board is made up of the leaders and elected mayors of the seven councils involved.
Members of the group were due to meet today at 2pm at Newcastle’s Civic Centre.
