A THREE-car crash caused a rush-hour nightmare for commuters.
Tailbacks spread across Sunderland after the incident blocked the A19 southbound between Durham Road and the A1018.
A diversion was put in place westbound along Durham Road, while further delays were caused as drivers tried to reach the A19 via Chester Road.
Police are still trying to clear the carriageway after the accident, which happened at 8.45am.
