ENGINEERS were called out to a major power cut in Seaham.

The problem was reported at about 6.17pm on Thursday that affected 3,362 people.

A spokesman for Northern Powergrid said the fault was believed to be from a power sub-station.

“Engineers were on site trying to solve the problem,” he said.

“We will probably re-route the power supplies to get electricity back to most or some of the people affected.”

A resident in High Barnes also reported seeing an electricity flash in the Silksworth area.

“It wasn’t lightning, it actually flashed up from the ground,” she said.

“I was wondering if anyone else had seen anything, but my son, who lives in Silksworth, never saw it.”
