HELP make Amy’s wish come true.
Mum Hayley Peverley is asking people to dig deep and help raise funds for a sensory room for daughter Amy.
The two-year-old was injured in a car accident when she was 20-months-old and sustained injuries which have left her mentally and physically disabled.
The collision left her with a traumatic brain injury, two fractures to her right leg and a break to her left leg.
She was treated by the children’s intensive care unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle, where she spent two weeks before she was transferred to its neonatal unit, where she spent a further four months.
Doctors put a bolt into the side of her head and carried out a double craniotomy to reduce swelling on her brain, which involved removing two pieces of bone from her skull.
She was then give physiotherapy and hydrotherapy and will have to have treatment for the rest of her life.
Now Hayley, 27, of Ryhope, has started a Facebook campaign- Amy’s Wish- to raise essential funds to give her daughter a better life and help her development.
“Amy uses the sensory room at Silksworth Puma Centre and it helps her in every way,” said Hayley, who is also mum to Amy’s twin brother Logan, who only received minor injuries in the accident.
Hayley, who also suffered minor injuries and has some scarring from the accident, added: “The benefits of the equipment are endless because they help with social and emotional skills, calmness and general wellbeing, as Amy gets frustrated because she has limited communication skills.
“We need around £5,000 to build a sensory room at home which will encourage Amy’s development.
“I would like to fit the room with state of the art equipment such as a sensory carpet, bubble lights and laser lights.
“There is no way I can afford to build it myself, so I am asking people to please give anything they can.”
Lola Cakes, based in Sunderland, is raffling a cake worth one hundred pounds with funds going to Amy’s cause, and my friend Lynn Taylor-Moor raised money from a sponsored bungee jump and race night she organised.
Family friend Sharon Kennedy, who owns a cash for clothes company, is also asking people to donate the money they get for their old outfits.
Hayley said: “People have helped but we have a long way to go. I do understand times are tough, but this would really make a difference to Amy’s life.
“Considering what she has been through she is a happy little girl, she takes everything in her stride and I am proud of her.”
