Thief stole vodka and ‘cleaning products’ from Pennywell Asda

DRINKER Stephen Lee stole two bottles of booze from a supermarket.

Sunderland Magistrates’ Court heard how Lee went into Asda in Pennywell and left with two bottles of vodka.

Keith Laidlaw, prosecuting, said the 26-year-old was seen on CCTV at about 4pm on December 9.

Lee, from Pennywell in Sunderland, picked up the bottles of Smirnoff and cleaning products, before walking past tills and out of the store.

Jason Smith, defending, said Lee, of Portsmouth Road, admitted the offence.

He told the court Lee was at the height of his alcohol addiction problems when he carried out the crime and has been receiving help to overcome his dependency.

District Judge Roger Elsey deferred sentencing for three months.
