WEARSIDE MP Sharon Hodgson has pledged to help show domestic violence the red card.
The Washington and Sunderland MP has given her backing to the Football United Against Domestic Violence campaign.
The campaign aims at working alongside football clubs and organisations to raise awareness of violence and the sexist attitudes that underpin abuse against women.
Ms Hodgson said: “The football community needs to send a clear message that whatever happens on the pitch, taking it out on your family is completely unacceptable.”
She joins a number of celebrities, including ex-England keeper David James and is timed to coincide with the World Cup.
