TALENTED school pupils hit the high note to sing their way to victory.

East Herrington Primary Academy performed to an audience of more than 2,000 at the Sunderland Empire to win the top prize in City Sings, an annual school choir competition.

Singers from seven primary and five secondary schools took part with Eclipse, a choir from Southmoor School, winning the open category.

As well as topping the Primary category, East Herrington Primary School were declared overall winners.

Bob Heron, Mayor of Sunderland, said: “We can be very proud of the wealth of musical talent we have in our schools and also the enthusiasm with which we have seen it performed.

“It is great to see that this event is continuing to go from strength to strength.”
