Take That to play Stadium of Light

Boy band fever is set to explode on Wearside as Take That today announce they will kick-start their summer tour at the Stadium of Light.

Taking centre stage at the Stadium, the fantastic foursome will be wowing audiences in the same week as Oasis - firmly stamping the city on the country's musical map.

After storming the music scene in the 90s, Britain's most successful boy band broke the hearts of millions of women across the globe when in 1996 they delivered the devastating news that they were splitting.

Proving they still had their magic, Take That sparked a frenzy when in 2005 they announced they were back - minus Robbie - and the boys meant business.

Gary, Howard, Jason and Mark hit the road for a string of sell-out gigs, and rose to the same heights of fame they enjoyed in the 90s.

And now, they are cementing their status in the music world and proving they really are Back For Good as they gear up to hit the road next summer to stop off at five venues across the country.

Take That Present The Circus Live - Summer 2009 will see the pop superstars embark on their biggest and most dramatic tour to date.

Gary said: "All of us are really looking forward to getting back on the road again next summer.

"We can think of no better way to thank everyone for their support and loyalty over the past three years.

"This will be the biggest tour we have ever done so we'll be working especially hard over the next few months to make it the best and most exciting Take That tour yet."

Sunderland AFC chairman Niall Quinn said: "This cements the Stadium of Light as a fantastic venue for our region and we're absolutely thrilled that Take That will be kicking off their tour with us here in Sunderland."

Take That have racked up 10 UK number one hits, with plenty more top hits on the cards with the release of their latest album, The Circus, on December 1.

The first single, Greatest Day, off their latest album is due out on November 24.

Take That will be playing at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, June 6.
