BEEHIVE baker Stacie Stewart makes her debut as Simon Cowell’s new judge tonight.

Tune into ITV to see the 31-year-old, who lives in Roker, in the first instalment of Food Glorious Food after TV’s Mr Nasty picked the chef to be part of his culinary version of the X Factor.

The former St Anthony’s School pupil, famed for her 60s hairstyle, joins Loyd Grossman, Tom Parker-Bowles and Anne Harrison from the WI on the hunt for Britain’s best home cooking.

In this week’s episode, contestants from Wales and the Midlands will be out to impress the panel with recipes including sausages in milk, classic Welsh cawl, Staffordshire oat cakes, and Pimms summer jelly.

The overall winner of the nine-part series, which is presented by Carol Vorderman, will receive a prize of £20,000 and see their own dish on the shelves of Marks & Spencer.

Speaking about her fellow judges, Stacie said: “Tom is an absolute legend.

“And I’ve been watching Loyd on telly since I was a kid, so it was funny to be working with him.

“He’s lovely though. Anne is a real force to be reckoned with.

“I really got on with Carol too, she is a real girl’s girl and is probably one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. She made me feel at home straight away.”

Stacie was handpicked by X Factor mogul Simon Cowell, whose production company, Syco, is making the series.

“I’ve heard he’s really happy with the show,” she told the Echo.

“It’s his new baby and he’s very passionate and enthusiastic about it.

“He loves his mam’s roast potatoes, which is what inspired him to make the show.

“You don’t have to be an expert cook to win, you just have to have one great dish which you believe is worthy to be sold in Marks & Spencer.”

Also this month Stacie is releasing her first cookery book, Stacie Bakes, which features a modern take on traditional dishes.

She will be signing copies of the book at Waterstones in The Bridges, on March 30 from midday to 12.30pm.
