FRIENDS with a passion for food are hoping to whip up sweet success on a national TV cookery contest.

Stephanie Dixon, 27, from Cleadon, and her friend Gabi Margiotta are competing as La Dolce Dolls in Sky Living’s My Kitchen Rules.

Broadcast on Thursdays at 9pm, the cookery show sees contestants compete in a series of cook-offs in their homes to see who can create the most mouth-watering menu.

Steph and Gabi’s creations are described as no-nonsense northern food with a Mediterranean twist.

The dishes are inspired by Steph’s Sunderland roots as well as Gabi’s Italian heritage.

“The show is a bit like Masterchef,” explained Steph, who is manager of an Italian restaurant in Liverpool.

“Each couple represents a part of Britain, so we’re representing the north of England. Gabi is half-Italian, so a lot of our dishes are Italian inspired. We’ve been friends for years and we’re both really passionate about food.

“Filming the show is intense, but we both really enjoyed it. People have been asking for our recipes such as our home-made pasta and Italian doughnuts.”

The pair are favourites to win the show which has a top prize of £25,000.

If they win the series, the girls plan to travel the world selling pizza from their own food truck.

My Kitchen Rules, presented by former model Lorraine Pascale and Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton, is a spin-off from the Australian version which is a huge hit.

It puts the couples through tough challenges before battling it out in the My Kitchen Rules studio.
