HUNDREDS of Wearside women will be in the pink this weekend in a bid to help stamp out a killer disease.

After months of training, fitness fans will be pulling on their trainers for Triathlon Pink on Sunday.

About 1,000 women and children are expected to take their places on the starting blocks for the event, which takes place at the Aquatic Centre and around the Stadium of Light.

They will be swimming, cycling and running to raise as much money as possible for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The women-only event was launched here after proving a huge success in Australia, where it’s raised more than a million Australian dollars since it began in 2006.

Lisa Pringle, director of event organisers Sport 3 Event Management UK, said: “We were thrilled with how the first two events in the UK have gone and delighted to now bring the series to Sunderland.

“It’s been amazing to see so many women accomplish goals they never thought possible and now Triathlon Pink will continue to capture the imagination of many more British women.”

Triathlon Pink is targeted at women of all fitness abilities and ages who train for fitness rather than competition.

People who want to participate can still enter on the day.

There’s a choice of three courses:

nShort course: 100 metres swim, three kilometres cycle, one kilometre run.

nMedium course: 200 metres swim, six kilometre cycle, two kilometre run.

nLong Course: 300 metres swim, nine kilometre cycle, three kilometre run.

Meanwhile, the kids version has a distance of 50 metres swim, 1.5kilometre cycle and 500metres
