A CHARITY organiser has told Sunderland people what to expect when a charity fun run comes to Wearside.
Miles for Men, a 5K men-only run, takes place at Herrington Country Park at 11am tomorrow .
Men of all ages are welcome to go along and can register on the day to help raise much-needed cash for cancer charities.
Michael Day, from Hartlepool, started the event in April 2012, in memory of his dad, Michael Day Snr, who lost his battle with throat cancer in 2007.
Michael, who ran in the latest event in Hartlepool last weekend, said: “There was really mixed emotions, but it was a fantastic day.
“There were a lot of runners taking part for people who are suffering at the moment.
“We have been going since 2012 and we have raised about £84,500. The support from the public has been absolutely amazing.”
Michael says people from Sunderland taking part can expect a lot of hard work, but he believes it is worth doing.
“There is a lot of preparation. It takes up your life, but it’s a great achievement to take part in this really,” he said. Miles for Men now has races set up in Newcastle, Gateshead and Liverpool, as well as Sunderland and Hartlepool.
Michael said: “We hope to charge forward if we can and get bigger and better in the years to come. We have a run in Liverpool in October.”
“This is our chance to give something back to the community. I want to say thank you to everyone, including Joanna Makepeace from the Sunderland team.”
