Sunderland marks Christmas Jumper Day

FESTIVE fun came to Wearside as scores took part in national Christmas Jumper Day.

The event was to raise money for Save the Children and saw thousands take part across the UK.

And readers wasted no time in sharing their seasonal snaps with the Echo.

Mum Rachael Burdon took this pic of 19-week-old son Finlay at his playschool, while creative eight-year-old Grace Wilson made her jumper herself.

Washington and Sunderland West MP Sharon Hodgson got in on the act, tweeting her photo to her 8,000-plus followers.

Graham Donkin sent in this photo of family friend Harry Dutson with his daughter Amy Donkin, who are both from Hetton.

The charity invited people to wear woollies to raise funds to help save lives in the toughest parts of the world, with each person asked to donate £1 or more.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Thank you to everyone. We had a woolly wonderful day and we hope you did too.”
