A PATIENT climbed onto the roof of Sunderland Royal Hospital and spent almost an hour on top of the two-storey building before being talked down by police.
Five police cars and one van attended the incident at the Kayll Road hospital, after staff called emergency services at 8.18am on Wednesday morning.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said the man came down from the roof at 9.09am and that he was back in the care of the hospital.
No further police intervention was required, he added.
A spokeswoman for City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust said: “We can confirm there was an incident this morning involving a gentleman who had climbed on to the roof of a two-storey building at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
“Police were quickly informed, this was successfully resolved and the gentleman was escorted to be seen in the emergency department.
“There was no disruption to hospital services.”
