Sunderland football matches cancelled due to bad weather
AMATEUR league players, officials and spectators are advised that football matches will not go ahead this weekend because council pitches have fallen foul of the adverse weather.
After an inspection of all Sunderland City Council football pitches a decision has been made to cancel the football matches this weekend as the pitches are currently unplayable.
The authority said that forecast of poor weather for the next few days is not expected to allow the surfaces to recover sufficiently in time for the planned matches
Shiney Row ward councillor Mel Speding, the city council’s Cabinet Secretary added: “Unfortunately the recent bad weather has left the pitches in a poor state.”
“To play on them in their current condition would just make them worse and risk them being out of action for longer.
“With this in mind we’ve made the decision to postpone the games due this weekend.”
