Sunderland fireworks wow crowds + SLIDESHOW

Waiting for Video...

THERE was something special in the air as Sunderland’s largest fireworks display marked Ashbrooke Sports Club’s 125th year with a bang.

Colourful explosions filled the night sky over Ashbrooke.

A sparkling “Happy Birthday” message kicked off the event, hosted by Sun FM presenter, Simon Grundy.

Bonfire Night revellers gathered in the sports ground to watch the display.

Screaming rockets and showers of sparks tore through the air, to an energetic soundtrack including the James Bond theme and the Beatles’ classic All You Need is Love.

People living nearby stood at windows and balconies to take in the annual event, while families kept warm with burgers and chips and enjoyed fairground rides.
