A LIFELONG Sunderland fan celebrated her 101st birthday in style.

Frances, originally from High Street, had a party at Alexandra View Care Centre, where she is a resident.

Michelle Stephenson – the landlady of Halfway House, in Southwick – opens the pub once a month just for the residents of the centre, but for Frances’s birthday celebrations she brought the pub to the care centre.

Frances is a huge football fan and used to attend Roker Park every week to watch matches.

Family and friends of Frances came along to celebrate her birthday.

She has two daughters, Sylvia Hodge and Frances Gooch, plus five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Frances also has a close friend, Audrey Davison, who comes to visit her regularly at the care centre.

Sylvia Hodge, daughter of Frances said: “It was an excellent day, we all really enjoyed it and it was so kind for the owner of the Halfway House to help.”
