DEDICATED dancers are leaping for joy after scooping a haul of 34 trophies.
Five crews from Dance Jam studios, based in Sunniside, will now compete in next year’s prestigious UDO World Street Dance Championships after wining the awards at a qualifying contest.
The crews – Mini Jam, Lil’ Jam, Nu Jam, Da’ Jam and TMJ Jam – will compete against dance troupes from as far afield as China and Australia at the contest in Glasgow in August.
Mark Johnson, director at Dance Jam in Villiers Street, said: “We were so proud to get so many trophies.
“There are regional qualifiers held across the country and the nearest one to us was at North Shields.”
Dancers from the studio, aged six to 26, competed in the qualifying contest. Mark said: “The judges were impressed with the diversity of the dance styles the crews did which included hip hop, locking, popping, crunk and house.
“I’m so proud of them all. The World Street Dance Championships are a great platform for dancers, there will be talent scouts there which could really open doors for them.”
