TRIBUTES were today paid to a doting dad friends regarded as “simply the best”.

Frank Adams died days after suffering a stroke while on a stag do for the son of his best friend.

Vic Avery, who is dad to groom Keith, 40, had known Mr Adams for more than 30 years and said he will be a huge loss.

He said: “His family are completely devastated and heartbroken, understandably.

“The only blessing is that he was able to hold on long enough to say goodbye.”

Mr Adams, of Silksworth, complained of feeling ill on Sunday morning and initially thought he was having a heart attack.

Vic, 67, called 999 and he was taken to hospital where it was confirmed he had had a stroke.

Dad-of-five Vic said: “His nephew, Peter, was on the stag do and he went to the hospital with him.

“We rang his family and they were there within two-and-a-half hours and stayed with him.

“He deteriorated so quickly.

“His eyes were open and he could squeeze people’s hands, but he couldn’t speak and I think that must have been the most frustrating thing for him.”

Vic, a widower, from Lakeside Village, Sunderland, added: “He was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. He was like a brother to me.

“He was the most respectable man, and the people he knew were unbelievable, he had so many friends.

“To look at him, he was the healthiest man you could meet.

“I said he was the Peter Pan of bowling. He never aged – he was 60 but he looked about 40.”

Mr Adams played outdoor bowls for Silksworth Bowling Club for 36 years, indoor bowls for Sunderland at Crowtree Leisure Centre and carpet bowls at Humbledon and Plains Farm Working Men’s Club.

He leaves behind six children and five grandchildren.

A minute’s silence was held in his honour at Humbledon and Plains Farm Club on Tuesday night.

Vic added: “Frank was a family man through and through.

“You could just see how much he loved his kids and his grandkids.

“My son Keith called him Uncle Frank.

“Today he flies to Las Vegas with his fiancée Jodi to get married. He doesn’t really want to go any more, but I said to him there’s no way Frank would want you to miss it.

“There’s only one thing to say to sum him up really – he was simply the best.”

Mr Adams’ funeral was held yesterday at The Independent Methodist Church, Silksworth.
