SUNDERLAND head coach Gus Poyet is backing a bid to paint the city in the club’s colours ahead of Sunday’s Capital One Cup Final.
With just six days to go until the Wembley showdown with Manchester City, SAFC’s charity arm, the Foundation of Light, is launching its Red and White City campaign.
It hopes to have a sea of red and white across the region with decorated houses, shops, offices and schools showing the club colours ahead of Sunday’s match.
Uruguayan Poyet has shown his support for the campaign and said: “Sunderland is an incredible place and everybody here loves football, no matter how old or young – everybody breathes football.
“We want to make everybody proud and enjoy this occasion. I know everybody will show their support for in the build-up to the final and on the day.”
The Foundation of Light will also be fundraising through the campaign with participants being asked to make a £1 donation to the charity.
The money can be collected by participating schools or businesses, or donated directly via a special Just Giving page, www.justgiving.com/safc.
Proceeds will be used to support the Foundation of Light’s wide range of sport and education-based programmes, which benefit more than 42,000 young people and families across the North East every year.
School and businesses interested in getting involved should contact the Foundation of Light on 551 5191.
