THE main pool at Sunderland’s flagship swimming centre is closed after a problem with the pumps.
A reduced swimming programme is being held in the diving pool after a fault with the pumps that heat and treat the water meant it had to close to the public last Wednesday.
Council bosses said it is hoped it will be open as normal by next Thursday.
Councillor John Kelly, portfolio holder for public health, wellness and culture, said: “The four pumps that heat, circulate and treat water for the main pool have not been working correctly. These are now under specialist repair and staff have re-organised sessions to accommodate regular users and group bookings where possible.”
In the meantime, customers are asked to contact the centre on 561 6161 to confirm swim session times.
