FIND out what it means to be a volunteer with the UK’s leading first aid charity.
St John Ambulance is holding an open evening in Sunderland in the hunt for new volunteers.
A recruitment evening for adult first aiders will take place at The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), Wearfield, Enterprise Park East, on March 19, at 7pm.
Serving volunteers will be on hand to talk about their own experiences and to demonstrate their first aid skills.
Visitors will be able to look around a mobile treatment centre and will have the chance to see inside one of the charity’s ambulances.
Andrew Trotter, St John Ambulance’s district manager in the North, said: “We want to give local people a real insight into what we do.
“We make sure all our volunteers have the skills needed to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
“But there’s also a strong social side to the organisation.
“St John Ambulance gives you the chance to learn new skills, make new friends and get involved in doing something really positive for your community.”
All new volunteers are expected to learn basic first aid skills, but for those who prefer not to get involved in frontline first aid duties, there are plenty of other valuable roles.
