A CHURCH warden is urging people to use a £160,000 computer suite that was created by her late sister.

Former social worker Davina Burton lost her battle with cancer last March after work finished on an IT suite she wanted the people of Sunderland to enjoy.

The suite was made possible after years of fund-raising, and was finally opened in May 2011.

It can be found upstairs in the parish hall next to St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Wilson Street, Millfield. It is available to rent out for a nominal fee, with the price often being negotiable.

Davina’s sister Angela Connelly is the church warden.

She said: “Davina loved Sunderland and was very passionate about its people.

“The suite is a gift for the community.

“Any profit made is used purely to cover the cost of running it.

“She fought hard to get it, now we need people to come and use it, so far only two groups do.”

Angela said Davina, who died aged 62, made peace with her fight against ovarian cancer and told her loved ones she was “ready to go home”.

But before she did, the former magistrate had one last thing to finish.

Angela added: “At the end, she went all out to complete the suite.”

The suite contains six computers, a table big enough for meetings and a whiteboard, as well as a stair lift to get to and from the room. Anyone interested in hiring the IT suite can contact the church on www.st-marymagdalene.co.uk or by calling 565 6318.

An open day will be held at the parish hall on Friday, January 24, between 9am and 1pm.
