AN annual clean-up is due to sweep in for the fourth year running.
The Big Spring Clean campaign is about to get under way in County Durham, with people being encouraged to join together to carry out litter-picks in their communities.
Last year, it saw 1,400 volunteers collect 1,086 bags of litter over a total of 2,000 hours.
Organisers LitterFree Durham, Durham County Council and Darlington Borough Council are urging people to sign up now to get involved in the campaign, which takes place between Monday and Friday.
Gerald Lee, chairman of LitterFree Durham, said: “Every year, more and more volunteers across County Durham and Darlington turn out to clean up their communities, and as chair of LitterFree Durham, I thank them all for doing so.
“People can sign up as an individual or as part of a group.
We can offer advice and equipment, and we will also remove the bags of litter people collect.”
